Minimally Invasive Hernia Repair

Hernias occur in many places, usually the groin, but also in the umbilicus and other places in the abdominal wall. Patients usually note a bulge and discomfort at the site of the hernia. Usually they are painful and a nuisance, sometimes they are dangerous. Traditional surgical techniques repair hernias through large incisions directly over the problem area, using mesh and suture to repair the hole. Dr Maccabee uses techniques developed in the last 15 years to repair hernias from below the defect, using laparoscopy and specially designed instruments and mesh to repair all types of hernias. Sometimes called "athlete hernia repair" or "keyhole surgery" these techniques require only tiny incisions and lead to significantly faster recovery, less bruising and pain, and excellent results.
